Scholarships are an excellent way to fund your education. Scholarships come from many sources, and can be awarded based on a variety of criteria. The key is to make the effort, respond fully and accurately, and don't give up! Remember to begin your search one year prior to your attendance. Then you will need to continue your research each year. The following are types of scholarships and additional information on each type:
State of Florida Scholarships
The Florida Department of Education administers many scholarships (including Bright Futures Scholarships) for Florida residents attending Florida institutions. For criteria and application procedures, please go to the Florida Department of Education.
If you are an out of state resident, check the Department of Education in your home state for scholarship possibilities.
Florida State University Scholarships
FSU Scholarships are a great way to fund your education. Florida State University awards many scholarships based on merit and talent to resident and non-resident, undergraduate, graduate and international students. FSU Foundation Scholarship (private donor scholarships)
Many students apply for and are awarded scholarships from private sources, such as civic groups or businesses. Florida State University administers some scholarships established by private donors, based on donor criteria. These criteria may include original residency location, academic merit, specific major, and/or other criteria, such as the Deeb Memorial scholarship, which is a scholarship for Adopted or Orphaned students. Foundation scholarships may be awarded by various departments. Scholarship Searches
There are ways to search for scholarships. Your research might start in your own school or community library, or with your guidance counselor at your present school. Check out local civic organizations and businesses to see if they currently offer any scholarships. Beyond the local level, you can search through several Internet scholarship search programs.
