Federal Work Study Steps to Employment

Follow These Steps to Employment

Step 1. SELECTING YOUR JOB:
Review the Federal Work Study Job Listing ..by department (alphabetically) or by category. There are many different types of positions available across campus. Consider looking for a postition that will offer you experience in your field of study if possible. Community service work study is also an option. Students who have work study awards may choose to work with one of our community work study partners, providing services to assist in the non-profit community. Community Service information is available on our community service website.

Step 2. INTERVIEWS:
Call or e-mail the departments you have chosen to schedule an interview. This interview is like any other job interview; you should show up prepared to discuss your qualifications and ready to demonstrate that you are the best candidate for the position.

Step 3. HIRING PROCESS:
Download the Work Study Authorization form from your Financial Aid Student Toolkit and take it with you to your interview, so that if you are offered a position your employer can start the payroll process. If you are a new employee to the FSU Omni payroll, don’t forget to have your employer help you complete the “New Employee Forms Wizard” on the Human Resources website. First time employees will need to have on hand their Social Security card and, for eligible non-citizen, their alien registration card.

http://hr.fsu.edu/ > Forms > Employee Forms Wizard

Before you start working, turn in your FWS Employment Authorization Form and if needed, the Employee Wizard Forms. Please return your FWS documents by using the FWS drop box located inside the Financial Aid lobby (A4400 University Center).

Step 4. BEGIN WORKING, SET-UP YOUR DIRECT DEPOSIT AND TIMESHEET:
Make sure your supervisor gives you instructions on how to set-up your direct deposit of your paycheck (this is not the EFT for Financial Aid) and how to process your timesheet to get paid. This is done through the Omni Employee Self Service and your department should give you the instructions.

*Remember, the deadline to turn in your FWS documents for fall and spring
is the second week of the fall semester.
Students who do not complete payroll documentation by this time
will see their Fall and Spring work study cancelled.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never been paid by the New FSU Omni Payroll System, you will need your Social Security Card (make sure you have signed it) and for non-citizens, your Alien Registration card. You can not be processed to be paid without these documents, your FWS Employment Authorization and Employee Wizard Forms.
