Scholarships


Scholarships are an excellent way to fund your education. Scholarships come from many sources, and can be awarded based on a variety of criteria. The key is to make the effort, respond fully and accurately, and don't give up! Remember to begin your search one year prior to your attendance. Then you will need to continue your research each year.

Featured Scholarships:

Deeb Scholarship :

For students who are either Adopted or Orphaned.

  • This scholarship can be based on need or on academic merit. If applying as need-based the FAFSA must be on file with FSU.
  • Students must have a 2.5 G.P.A.
  • Application deadline is May 2, 2008
  • Submit this application and documentation to FSU Office of Financial Aid

 

The following are types of scholarships and additional information on each type:

  • Private -

    Private scholarships are available from many sources. Check locally with businesses, civic groups, banks, credit unions, schools, associations, churches, etc. Check nationally through valid, free search sites that will point you to scholarships that may match your interests or attributes. Some of the best web searches include:

  • State -

    The State of Florida provides scholarships through several programs, the most well known being the Bright Futures scholarship program. Full information on all State Programs is available online through the Florida Department of Education/Office of Student Financial Assistance website

    If you are an out of state student check with your state's department of education to see if you are eligible for any state grant that they might administer.

  • Bright Futures

    To apply for a Bright Futures Scholarship, submit a completed Florida Financial Aid Application during your last year in high school (after December 1 and prior to graduation). It is your responsibility to know and meet the requirements of the Bright Future Scholarship Program before high school graduation.     IMPORTANT NOTE* You must apply during your last year in high school, before graduation, or you will forfeit all future eligibility for a Bright Futures Scholarship.

    Institutional -

  • Florida State University awards many scholarships based on merit and talent to resident and non-resident, undergraduate, graduate and international students. Upon admission to FSU , all incoming and transferring students are can considered for an admission scholarships. For more details visit admissions.fsu.edu.

  • Foundation -

    Many students apply for and are awarded scholarships from private sources, such as civic groups or businesses.  Florida State University administers some scholarships established by private donors, based on donor criteria. These criteria may include original residency location, academic merit, specific major, and/or other criteria, such as the Deeb Memorial scholarship, which is a scholarship for Adopted or Orphaned students.  Foundation scholarships may be awarded by various departments.  To apply for Foundation Scholarships please first search the database links below to identify scholarships that you may qualify for then contact the appropriate department as indicated on the scholarship information. 

OFA Foundation Financial Aid scholarships

The are scholarships made possible through the generous donations of private donors, made through the FSU Foundation and reviewed/awarded through the FSU Office of Financial Aid. For these scholarships you will need to submit an FSU Financial Aid Foundation Scholarship Application This application will be available March 21- March 31, 2008 with a submission deadline of 5:00 p.m. March 31, 2008. Resulting awards from these scholarships will be posted the the student's FSU Financial Aid Student Toolkit before the fall term begins.

 

2008/2009 Available Scholarships

 

100 Club of Broward County                                 To be determined
Eligible for consideration: undergraduate students who are dependents of police and fire personnel of Broward County.  Must provide documentation of parental employment in Broward County police or fire departments. 

A. Lee Wells Scholarship                                        2 - $1,000 scholarships
Eligible for consideration: full time FSU students who have graduated from either Chipley or Vernon high schools in Florida.

Boston Seminole Club Scholarship                                   $750.00
Eligible for consideration:  undergraduate residing in one of following Massachusetts counties:  Barnstable, Duke, Essex, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk.

 CNL Group Scholarship                                           To be determined
Eligible for consideration: 1st & 2nd year undergraduates who have less than 52 credit hours.  Priority consideration will go to children of CNL Group employees and to Orlando area students.  Potential for academic success and financial need will be considered.

Davenport Scholarship                                           Tuition and Fees
Eligible for consideration: students who have graduated in the top 10% of their class from a high school in Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Levy, Marion, Putnam, or Sumter counties.  Students must have declared major in Management, Finance, Marketing, Public Relations or Communications. Student must show financial need through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Ethics in Business Scholarships                To be determined
Eligible for consideration: undergraduate students who have taken the following ethics classes at FSU: MAN 4701, MAN 4930, PHI 3641, or who are planning to enroll in one of these classes during the 08/09 academic year.

Fred May– Gadsden County Scholarship      15 - $1,500 scholarships

Eligible for consideration: Residents of Gadsden County, Florida.  The award amount will be based upon number of credit hours taken.  Must provide proof of residency in Gadsden County.

Hecht-Havernick-Amdur Scholarship       To be determined  
Eligible for consideration: Employees of Naples – Fort Myers / Flagler Greyhound Track

John & Francis Copeland Scholarship      1 - $1,000 scholarship

Eligible for consideration: Undergraduates who are descendants of the Tallahassee Branch of the University of Florida graduates from 1946-1947.  Must provide documentation of eligibility.

Mac Tyner Scholarship                                           2 - $1,000 scholarships
Eligible for consideration: Graduates of high schools in Okaloosa County, Florida; must show financial need per the FAFSA and must have a minimum 2.0 g.p.a.

President’s Club Scholarship                                 1 - $1,000 scholarships
Eligible for consideration: Available to undergraduate transfer students; must have a minimum 3.5 g.p.a. an A.A. degree and 4 letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are required with this completed application by March 31, 2008.

Russell H. Langstroth Scholarship                       1 - $500 scholarship
Eligible for consideration: Junior or Senior level students with a minimum 3.0 grade point average; recipient must be a Community College transfer student with an A.A. degree from Broward, Dade or Palm Beach counties.  This scholarship is for well rounded students who have demonstrated an involvement in sports, have volunteer experience and/or have participated in clubs, extra curricular activities or community programs; a preference will go to those with an interest in tennis.  Please provide documentation of extra curricular activities/community involvement/sports.

Seminole Club of NY City - FSU-NYC Sept 11th Scholarship Fund     
Eligible for consideration: Direct descendent/relative of any police, firefighter, medical rescue worker or other person in uniform who was killed in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept 11, 2001 or any student who was directly affected by the attack.

 Seminole Club of Atlanta                                  $1000
Eligible for consideration: incoming Freshman students from the Atlanta Area
(# of scholarships dependent upon available funds)

Seminole Club of Greater Miami Area      2 - $1000 scholarships
Eligible for consideration:  incoming Freshman students who graduated from a Dade county high school.
